car workshop

he first step, of course, is to create a plan based on the specifics of the space. Foundation strength should be the first consideration. In order to support the heavy lifts and other weighty equipment needed for auto repair, the foundation must have at least a four-inch thickness.

Next, plan for adequate height: two-post lifts used for passenger car workshop and light trucks require a minimum ceiling height of 12 feet to ensure adequate clearance.

Ventilation should also be an important part of the workshop plan. Generous doors and oversized windows are always a good idea. Including a built-in wall fan and/or ventilation hose running to the exterior will ensure good air circulation.

Electrical accommodations should include several 110 outlets, which will cover a wide variety of electrical needs; and don’t forget to plan for a compressor and air lines.

Note: When installing the different systems that the workshop requires, it’s always best to tackle one system at a time. Complete one installation before moving on to the next.

Finally, don’t forget storage: besides the numerous wrenches and ratchets that outfit any workshop, a number of specialty tools will also require a home. As with any workshop space, the more you can keep off the floor, the better.
